There’s just something special about a real walnut cutting board. The rich dark color, warm natural feel, and unique flowing grain patterns bring a timeless look to any kitchen. It’s one of the reasons Black Walnut has become one of the most sought-after woods for premium cutting boards—it combines beauty, durability, and character like few woods can.
This Face Grain Black Walnut Cutting Board is crafted from premium American Black Walnut sourced from the Eastern United States, chosen for its rich chocolate tones, striking grain movement, and long-lasting durability.
Face grain construction showcases the broad, most beautiful side of the wood, making each board unique. It’s excellent for light to moderate prep work, slicing, serving, cheese boards, charcuterie, and presentation.
Available in three sizes, with a front juice groove, built-in recessed pocket handles, and a thick professional-grade build from 1.18" to 1.57".
Face grain cutting boards highlight the most beautiful surface of the wood—the wide grain face where walnut’s rich color and natural grain patterns stand out the most. This gives each board its own one-of-a-kind look, making it as much a part of your kitchen décor as it is a working kitchen tool.
I build these boards thicker than most because thicker boards simply last longer. At 1.18 inches to 1.57 inches thick, they offer excellent stability, better resistance to warping, and enough material for resurfacing years down the road if ever needed.
I like being straightforward—if you’re doing heavy chopping every day with expensive kitchen knives, an end grain board is usually the better choice. But for versatility, beauty, easier maintenance, and everyday kitchen use, face grain walnut is a fantastic option.
Why Choose Face Grain?
Face grain boards are prized for one thing above all else—beauty. They showcase the most dramatic and attractive part of the wood grain, making them a favorite for kitchens where both function and appearance matter.
Advantages of face grain:
- Shows the richest natural grain patterns
- Beautiful for countertop display
- Great for serving and presentation
- Easier maintenance than end grain
- Excellent for light to moderate prep work
- More affordable than end grain
My personal tip: use one side for prep and keep the best-looking side for serving.
Best of both worlds.
-
- Hand wash only
- Dry immediately after washing
- Never soak in water
- Never place in dishwasher
- Oil regularly with food-grade mineral oil or board wax
- Store dry and flat whenever possible
